I have known Gareth for over 50 years. There were long gaps in between meeting up but that did not seem to matter as we always seemed to start off the conversation where we left off. Our last lunch together was a grand affair, we had not seen each other for quite a time so lunch was taken at a leisurely pace with many courses and wines to accompany! I remember him choosing ice cream to finish and he explained that when he was in hot and sandy places his favourite dream was to be enrobed in vats of vanilla ice cream to cool down. His many tales left me full of mirth and joy and when I look back and remember Gareth, as I will so fondly, it will be of a very accomplished man who clearly enriched so many lives with his wit and charm. Alas they don't make them like Gareth very often, it was a privilege to have known him. R.I.P. my friend. Andrew Vickers
